In the ridge country above Calloway, hikers and locals turn up dead with intricate routes cut into their skin — accurate, walkable, each leading to the next find. The sheriff’s department has stopped pretending it’s a coincidence and started following the lines.

Search-and-rescue tracker Imo Adeyemi reads terrain better than anyone in three counties, which is why the maps speak to her so clearly and so wrong. Each one points deeper into the backcountry, toward a final destination the carver promises will reveal his own name. Imo knows it’s bait. She also knows she’s the only one who can read it. So she shoulders her pack and starts walking.

Propulsive and grim, this is adventure horror with a blade for a pen, where solving the puzzle means stepping straight into the trap. Walton keeps the trail and the dread climbing together. The map always knows where you are.
