Trauma-scene cleaner Wes Idoko prides himself on leaving rooms cleaner than the people who lived in them. But lately he keeps arriving at jobs already finished: no blood, no body, no faint outline of a person — and, hours later, no record that the person existed. Bank accounts gone. Photos blank. A mother who swears she never had a son.

When his own sister’s name starts thinning out of the world, Wes goes looking for whoever scrubs a life this completely, and finds a stranger who works the same trade he does — only better, and not with bleach.

Reality itself develops a smear in this one, a slow creep from procedural into something vast and patient. Walton grounds the cosmic dread in the chemical sting of a too-clean room. The horror isn’t dying. It’s being erased so thoroughly that no one is left to miss you.
