He keeps them perfect. Frozen mid-gesture, lashes white with frost, posed behind glass like the last of a species that died out clean. He calls it a museum. He calls himself a curator.

Glaciologist Renata Sorbo came to the research station above Cold Harbor to study ice and avoid people, which suited her until the people started disappearing. A snowmobile guide. A trucker. A teenage runaway who’d been sleeping in the old cannery. The town blames the cold — it takes the careless, it always has — and Renata almost believes it, because the cold is the one thing she trusts.

Then she goes looking for a missing colleague and finds a door in the ice that someone built, behind it a hall of figures standing in the dark, lit from below, each one labeled in a tidy hand. They are not specimens. They were people last week. She backs out, heart slamming, and tells no one for exactly three days before she goes back down with a flashlight and a knife she doesn’t know how to use.

Glacial, claustrophobic horror where the killer treats human beings as a collection to complete. The terror is the patience of it — the sense of a man who has all the time in the world, because cold doesn’t hurry.
